Overview

This four-day workshop is designed to use participatory-interactive educational approach. Starting on May 20th, 2022 the workshop is divided in 2 sessions of 2 days each, ending on June 4th, 2022. The sessions will utilize brief didactics, completion of worksheets from the Mixed Methods Research Workbook. It will be based on personal interest of each participant, provision of peer-feedback and presentation in a poster session on day 3. Participants will become knowledgeable about the fundamental features of mixed methods research, develop, and refine mixed methods research questions, work on their mixed methods proposal, study, or manuscript. They will plan or refine a rigorous methodology for their projects with guidance from a leading methodologist. Workshop activities are geared to both novice and advanced researchers. The activities uniquely focus on application. Participants will take away several deliverables. First, participants will receive a booklet of several worksheets copy from the Mixed Methods Research Workbook. Second, participants will complete specific activities in the worksheets during the actual workshop. Third, based on their drafted notes in the worksheets, the participants will create Word documents for printing. These will be useful as draft text, tables, and figures appropriate for use in publication. Fourth, the participants will prepare and
present selected worksheets for their poster presentation. Based on the feedback from other workshop participants, they will refine their presentations that will be appropriate for use in presenting to their colleagues, research labs, lectures, or professional meeting presentations. Fifth, having become familiar with the Mixed Methods Research participants will be able to continue working on their projects based on the many activities included in this workshop.

Participants must have a pre-defined project or idea to work on during the workshop.

The workshop will be led by Prof. Michael Fetters of the University of Michigan, who is Director of the Mixed Methods Program, Co-editor in Chief of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research, and author of the Mixed Methods Research Workbook—Activities for Designing, Implementing and Publishing Projects published by SAGE. Dr. Fetters is passionate about advancing integration in mixed methods and evaluation research. He has led multiple workshops in various countries and through the University of Michigan Mixed Methods Program. Many of his past workshop attendees have been novice mixed methods researchers.
