Friday, January 10, 2020, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM, WCM-Q, Doha, Qatar

The course helps researcher determine the sample size needed for their study. Basic theory will be explained such as confidence intervals, p-values, power of a study, design effect and more. Sample sizes for different study designs such as prevalence studies, parallel group studies, ..etc will be discussed. The course will be applied using available free resources (webpages and software) to demonstrate sample size computations.

NOTE: Participants are required to bring their own laptop to the workshop with excel installed.

Physicians, Nurses, Dentists, Pharmacists, Allied Health Professionals, Students, Researchers

Objectives
  1. Demonstrate an understanding to concepts related to sample size computation such as design effect, power, significance level
  2. Determine the number of participants needed for different study designs commonly used in research such as prevalence studies, parallel arm clinical trials and pre-post studie
  3. Use a combination of available software and online calculators to compute the sample size
