Overview

This 2 day course on October 22-23, 2022 will investigate how the art of communicating science impacts public engagement with health messages at both the individual and population level. Participants will explore the basic principles of science communication, how science literacy impacts health behaviors and understanding of scientific evidence, methods to identify and pre-bunk misinformation when it arises, and how to effectively create evidence-informed health messages for different audiences and platforms. In addition, we will also explore how the scientific process, human cognition, and various social factors contribute to the public’s willingness to engage in scientific/health discussions.

Objectives
  1. 1. Define scientific communication, how it is impacted by science and health literacy, and where it can go wrong.
  2. 2. Explain how cognitive processes influence how information is received and internalized.
  3. 3. Describe techniques for developing and testing messages for different audiences.
  4. 4. Create an online communication proposal tailored to a particular audience.

The registration closes ONE day before the activity.

  • For a full refund of the registration fee, the cancellation request must be received at least 7 days prior to the session. No refund will be offered for cancellation request thereafter.
  • We will attempt to process the refund within 30 days of receiving any cancellation request.
  • Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar reserves the right to cancel the course. In the event of a cancellation, fee deposit will be returned, but we will not be responsible for any other expenses including restricted or non-refundable airfare or hotel deposits.
