At the end of this activity participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how behavioral, cognitive, and physiological factors perpetuate chronic insomnia, even after the original trigger has resolved.

  2. Interpret the rationale behind the counterintuitive elements of CBT-I, particularly stimulus control and sleep restriction or sleep compression.

  3. Differentiate evidence-based CBT-I from sleep hygiene advice and routine sedative-based management.

  4. Apply core CBT-I principles to a clinical case and identify patients who require specialist assessment, modification of treatment, or an alternative diagnostic pathway.
