Overview

Research is the main pillar for the advancement of science and the healthcare for patients and an essential part of healthcare. Therefore, Health care professionals (HCPs) from all disciplines and all levels are expected, at some time in their career, to either read or participate in research.

After identifying topics of interest, HCPs either often proceed with the research method they are used to or get stuck, struggling to proceed because they are unable to decide what approach or strategy to use. Therefore, inadequate basic knowledge of these fundamental research methods would lead to unanswered research questions or even incorrect results.

Participants at previous research courses in WCM-Q and researchers from different disciplines in Qatar, have indicated that training on the fundamentals of qualitative and quantitative research is highly needed for students, faculty members and HCPs in the various health sectors in Qatar. It is thus crucial to support HCPs to obtain training/ a refresher on the fundamentals of quantitative and qualitative research.

This six- hour workshop is scheduled as a two part synchronous online activity on two consecutive Saturdays and open for up to 30 participants. It will provide an opportunity for HCPs in Qatar to establish a basic understanding of quantitative and qualitative research processes and approaches. Participants will use these theoretical underpinnings to appreciate the merit and key research practices for each method. This series will also equip participants with basic knowledge to facilitate the completion of a Mixed Methods research course. The target audience is all health care professionals, researchers and students.
