Overview
The importance of design in healthcare has long been recognized, with its impact particularly felt in patient and professional communication, usability, education, space design, and product development. A recent survey of healthcare professionals in Qatar revealed a variety of perceptions around design and a subset of respondents who are actively considering design in their work. Much of the literature in healthcare recognizes the importance of design in a practical sense through the use of design processes and tools to create visuals, but it does not explore in depth the skill set required to both develop and understand visuals. Research shows that using visuals during clinical encounters can have a positive effect on patients when used in tandem with other communication styles particularly in relation to medication adherence7-8. As health literacy levels vary within the region9, encouraging communication formats that can ensure comprehension is vital. This workshop aims to explore how visuals can influence patient outcomes in a variety of factors. By focusing on types and purpose of visuals, basic design principles, and how poor design can create unintended consequences, practitioners will be better equipped to evaluate and incorporate effective visuals into their everyday practice and communications.

Target Audience
Specialties - Allied Health Professionals, Dentists, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physicians

Overall Learning Objective
  1. 1- Distinguish between different types of visuals used in healthcare and their purposes and functions
  2. 2- Interpret the role of and potential impact that visual design has on patient outcomes in healthcare settings.
  3. 3- Evaluate the effectiveness of health visuals by identifying and assessing how some of the key visual design principles and techniques are applied.

Registration

This workshop is free of charge.

The registration closes ONE day before the activity.

You will receive a UNIQUE link to register to join the meeting the day before the presentation.
