Overview
This three-day workshop on May 24, 25 & 31, 2024 is designed to use a participatory-interactive educational approach. The sessions will utilize brief didactics and completion of an assigned exercise. Participants will provide feedback on peer-reviewed articles to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of mixed methods research knowledge and skills. Workshop activities are geared toward novice and advanced researchers entering the MMR as an approach to their projects. The activities uniquely focus on application. Having become familiar with the Mixed Methods Research, participants will be able to review and critique MMR peer-review articles based on the various activities included in this workshop. The workshop was designed by Prof. Michael Fetters, University of Michigan, who was the Director of the Mixed Methods Program, Co-editor in Chief of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research, and author of the Mixed Methods Research Workbook—Activities for Designing, Implementing, and Publishing Projects published by SAGE. Dr. Fetters was passionate about advancing integration in mixed methods and research evaluation. He led multiple workshops in various countries and through the University of Michigan Mixed Methods Program. Many of his past workshop attendees had been novice mixed methods researchers. This workshop will be led by Dr. Timothy Guetterman, the current Associate Director of the Mixed Methods Program, Co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research, and the President-Elect of the Mixed Methods International Research Association. Dr. Guetterman is an interdisciplinary, applied research methodologist specialized in mixed methods research. As a methodologist, he works across disciplines and internationally with collaborators. Much of his research is at the intersection of health and education and aims to improve health services. He is also actively engaged in developing research methods capacity through the NIH Mixed Methods Research Training Program for the Health Sciences.
