Overview
There has been significant investment in women’s health services in Qatar. New major hospitals have opened boasting state of the art facilities. The Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Sidra Medicine provide care to tens of thousands of women every year alongside a number of other hospitals and clinics. While women have access to the major assisted reproductive techniques (ART) in Qatar such as IVF, ICSI, PGT, IUI and others, the country lacks an overarching legislative framework for their use, and ethical examinations concerning their use are deficient. Discussions are needed on whether legislation is needed in Qatar for the use of such technologies and, if so, what form those laws should take. There are important questions about how the law can align with international best practices while being adapted to local cultural, religious and ethical expectations. Detailed discussions between experts in the field can help to illuminate the path forward.

Target Audience
Specialties - Allied Health Professionals, Dentists, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physicians

Overall Learning Objective
  1. 1- Examine international best practices concerning the use of ART in clinical practice.
  2. 2- Appraise advances in male infertility and the associated ethical concerns.
  3. 3- Discuss the current legal and religious approaches governing the use of reproductive technologies in the Arabian Gulf.
  4. 4- Identify whether legislation is required in Qatar to govern the use of reproductive technology by clinicians.
  5. 5- Outline the core legislative components required for ART in Qatar and how they may affect practice.
