Overview
This activity is subsumed under the larger umbrella of an ongoing symposium on "Women and Medicine" which will be comprised of 4 modules (Clinical, Educational, Research and Academic life). The activity will focus on 3 major areas of importance in the area of Mental Health consisting of the contribution of gender-based care to improving women mental health, mental health issues in women victims of domestic abuse and the role of gender-transformative health promotion in the prevention of mental health problems in women.

Overall Learning Objective
  1. 1- Enumerate the social determinants of women’s mental health
  2. 2- Assess the opportunities to engage primary care workers and communities in mental health work
  3. 3- Demonstrate the use of simple assessment methods in a clinical setting to measure the mental health impact of domestic violence
  4. 4- Discuss evidence-based methods for handling mental health problems due to domestic abuse
  5. 5- Review a model of gender-transformative postnatal mental health promotion and illustrate how it might be adapted for diverse contexts
